NotesIn 1885, Alfred Curtis, 11, arrived in Canada, in a group of Middlemore children.

"Sixteenth Annual Report of the Local Government Board, 1886-87; Copy of Reports of Inspection of Children sent out to Canada, as of February 12, 1887.

Report of Mr. John Smith, Government Immigration Agent at Hamilton, Ontario.

Alfred Curtis, aged 11, from Guildford Union, placed with William Parkes, farmer, Flesherton P.O., Artemesia Tp., Ontario. Mr. Parkes reports the boy as being stupid, untruthful, dirty, and filthy in bed, and having an abscess in his leg; mentally weak with incapacity to learn, and entirely unfit to earn his living; he was returned to the Guthrie Home, London, in the beginning of November 1886."
